I don't dislike it, but it's definitely not in my top 40 or anything. Since it wasn't a single though, it doesn't have much exposure outside, so I'd say it's a little underrated.ġ: Alright, I'll cut to the chase. Within the Kanye fanbase, it gets huge praise. Mostly just that racial problems exist, and that's not something you can move past, no matter how successful you are. Sounds super positive and self-righteous in a way, but also leans toward negative with the serious subjects of racial stereotypes and struggles. Maybe the AIDS line, if only because it sticks with people that might not necessarily like Kanye when they listen to this otherwise airtight banger.ġst or 2nd, I always struggle to pick between it and Runaway, but those two make up 2nd and 3rd favorite Kanye tracks overall for me.Įven though I might not love the AIDS line, it's integral to the message of the song so leave it in. I agree with every line that /u/TheDabbyDabby mentioned.
Every line of this song is smart, funny, and topical. It all comes together so perfectly into one of my favorite Kanye songs overall. He does a quick tour of these topics, denouncing the problems that he sees with various aspects of the world.ĩ) This song is very highly rated, but deservedly so. It's the way it works with all the other elements of the track that really helps the bluesy rock to shine.ĥ) This is the best track on a phenomenal album, which is no mean feat.Ħ) No part of this track should be changed, it all works together beautifully.ħ) Somewhat mixed vibes, with Kanye's self positivity blending alongside the negative issues he's discussing and the slightly downbeat nature of the music.Ĩ) There isn't one unitary meaning to this song, but Kanye is certainly pondering a variety of social issues, including racism, sexual exploitation and the impact of hip hop and his own career.
Kanye rarely utilises electric guitars in his music and I think that he could use them more because when he does they usually sound excellent, like here. "She told the director she tryna get in a school He said 'take them glasses off and get in the pool'"īut my favourite is "Got caught with 30 Rocks and the cop looks like Alec Baldwin" because it's plainly and simply Kanye being funny, while still drawing attnetion to a social issue (not cops looking like Alec Baldwin, the war on drugs).Ĥ) Definitely the guitar riffs. "What's a black Beatle anyway, a fucking roach?" Some great examples: "Cause the same people that tried to black ball me Forgot about two things, my black balls" Lyrically and musically it totally works.Ī number of genuinely very funny lines in this one, whilst still managing to have plenty of meaning nonetheless. Up there with Gone and School Spirit as my favourite Kanye songs, which are just fantastic all around. I ger home, go on reddit, and here's another.Ībsolutely phenomenal. It's funny, I went to a petting zoo and saw some goats today. SONG DISCUSSION THREADS FOR THE LIFE OF PABLO LINKED AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS POST : HERE
